Cyberspace & Subjectivity

Very interesting lecture on how technology and advancements in technology have affected society. Things such as Cyberpunk and cyberpunk writers portray technology as being a medium of control. Also how and advancements in communication affect peoples everyday lives.

How does having such amazing freedom to communicate to people all over the World through the internet affect us? Does it make us less likely to socialize in real life?

In my case yes because its much easier to me to communicate to people through the internet and I can communicate with much more people through the internet. For instance I could have an online conversation with 5 different people in 5 different countries across the globe at the same time. The main advantage to online communication is the distance and amount of people we can reach out to and speak to or write to. I can also show people my music videos online easier than I could in person. By uploading my art I can get comments and opinions of many people who view them.

The downside of my increased communication with people through the internet is that I leave my house less because I simply don’t need to. I always have problems with trying to communicate emotions online because we cannot convey facial expressions online. Sarcasm for instance is very hard to convey online and often gets mistaken for insult. Also having a conversation online with someone will never be as satisfying or as interesting as having that same conversation with them in real life. Also people are less communicating than you think online most people don’t communicate as well online as I do so when I suggest a question like “Do you think pop music in the UK is suppressing better more artistic music and high art”” They will probably give me a 2 word answer like “Yeah Lol” I find this most annoying because I do like chatting to people and having debates and interesting arguments about art and music  its just that most people I talk to online don’t seem as adept nor as interested in having a lengthy discussion online so most conversations are short and to the point.

So I can be sure that technology can be used as a means of a extending communication to many people around the world but I don’t think it will ever replace speaking to real people.

This is a little of my thoughts on the topic but will not replace being there in person hearing my lecture speak.

Interlink my 3 blogs by an interactive changing virtual map with 3 main stars like in Orion’s Belt representing:

https://heavenswrath.wordpress.com/ – My first personal website. This is where I upload interesting videos that I make as art out of found footage. It also contains my ideas about new media projects, concepts and installations.

http://sonankempadoocmp.wordpress.com/– for uploading and posting research articles for continued coursework for critical research practice. If I can get it back when they finish  marking it

http://skyecloud.wordpress.com/ – For storing my notes from tutorials, lectures, presentations, pictures, related videos, uploaded documents. Will also function like a personal blackboard. Which I can constantly update.

These 3 blogs will be the hub If I could make a I-map of the main pages inside each blog and network them into the map in the stars.

This is an Idea of mine about how to make an amazing online portfolio for myself and to create my own online workspace. I’m sure this will be useful to me for keeping track of my course modules and achieve different objectives at the same time. It will also be accessible from whatever computers I can use that have access to the internet. That means I can upload notes while I’m in the lecture I could actively research and post articles for each one.

I am currently using Windows Live Writer tool it makes writing and uploading posts much faster and easier. Also allowing for multiple uploads, video placement, adding photos, screenshots. I think this could really help me with my course because I do 75% all my coursework research and documentation electronically. Also all my notes from lectures I type while in the lecture. This way they can be downloaded for future use and stored within the internet as a backup for the originals.

An idea that was inspired by the stars
